KATHAK DANCER

Dance is specific to time Space, Movement and Body. With a unique and sensitive approach to depict the rich Indian cultural heritage, Namrata has inculcated the traditional value of Kathak since the age of nine, and has created her own space in dance.

Her thirteen years of devotion, exploring different nuances of Kathak, has earned her the blessings of the best of Indian artists in the field of performing arts.

Under the Guru Shishya Parampara, she got her training of Kathak , which has graciousness of Lucknow Gharana, from Smt. Bharati Gupta and elder son of Padma Bhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Jai Kishan Maharaj.

With perfection in movements, excellent command over Laya, and clarity in expression; today the elegant dancer has perfect stage presence and is well known for her art of interaction with the audience and creating a mesmerizing effect of visual continuity on stage.

As an accomplished soloist the young dancer has performed in prestigious festivals in India and abroad. As a performer in the troupes of leading dance maestros, she has worked with Nalini-Kamalini duo for their production unit `Sangeetika'; and in choreographic works of illustrious Kathak exponents - Smt. Geetanjali Lal; Rani Khanam; Pandit Jai Kishan Maharaj, smt. Urmila Nagar, Rajendra Gangani, Jaishree Acharya, a London Based choreographer.

In her contemporary works, her creative skill have embellished the concerts of Santosh Nair, Merlin D'Souza (A member of SHUBHA MUDGAL'S fusion band). She had opportunity to contribute to the choreography in the Play "Dara Shikov-A Story of Historical Betrayal", Directed by National Award winner, Padamshri M.S. Sathiya

Her own fusion concerts have been presented at conferences of Chevrolet, Rado and many international companies, promoting Arts and Culture, were based on universal concept extending beyond national frontiers. In her effort to investigate the world of Kathak in the company of aspiring talent; Namrata has stepped into the Dance Universal as an `Educationist'.

In her workshops in India, sponsored by Sahitya Kala Parishad, and also at the WORLD DANCE CENTRE in Seoul, she delineated the spiritual aspects, besides the techniques of Indian Dance; which is the core of India's age-long heritage.

In her eagerness to convey the passion of dance to the young ones, she holds the post of Teacher of Indian Classical Dance at the G.D. Goenka World School, Gurgaon.

The young dancer believes; `Dance is a form of self purification'. To compliment the same she is influenced by yogic practices and considers music as a part of meditation.
