"To express, what I cant express with words"

"Dance isn´t freedom of speech, it is freedom of movement and expression.", says Sarai Samarasa.

From the age of four, dance has been a constant and fulfilling part of her life that came in the form of Bharata Natyam. She received training in this classical Indian dance from her mother and guru Diana R. Mikolai, at the Abhinaya Tharapana Palli dance school in Berlin. By the age of six she was already performing and sharing her passion with the public. In 2005, the same year in which she completed her Arangetram, she took part in the national Bharata Natyam competition of Germany, in the main category of Varnams, and won the title Adet Kaleyarassi. Sarai has also taken part in several events in the U.K. and Austria and did her own recitals in Sri Lanka, one of those by special invitation at the Eastern University of Chenkady.

In 2009 she developed an interest in Indian contemporary dance. In the same year she wrote an essay on the influences of western dance styles on Bharata Natyam and started choreographing pieces in collaboration with musicians of different musical backgrounds.
The person she is today is a result of growing up between south asian and western european cultures and being exposed to various art forms. Sarai has always known she is a dancer but at times questioned what use this is to others, especially those who may be suffering. She realised dance can heal souls, the most precious part of ourselves. That medicine can´t do, but arts can. Additionally it makes people cross physical and emotional boundaries and makes frees them from loneliness.
