One of the finest exponents of Bharata Natyam, RAMA VAIDYANATHAN - www.ramavaidyanathan.com - presented 'Shivoham', an evening of classical dance based on select poetry on Lord Shiva on 11 Feb 2007. Organized by Chinmaya Mission Delhi chapter, audience and fans of Rama throng the auditorium braving the rains and cool breeze. There is no doubt that Rama is considered one of the few outstanding dancers. Her dedication, hardwork and thought process along with support from family, friends and coworkers have indeed contributed to her journey in search of perfection and unison with the ultimate. Her chosen medium of expression, Bharata Natyam has helped her to find her way to wisdom, maturity and hopefully pure art devoid of material achievements. Her first guu, the veteran Yamini Krishnamurthy ruled the world of Bharata Natyam for decades. In fact it is difficult to find or compare any other dancer with Yamini's popularity while she was in her golden period. However without any exaggeration or undue favoritism one can say that we may soon see Yamini coming back again with more vigour through Rama. However it all depends on Rama. Rama Vaidyanathan presented shiva stotram of Gopalakrishna Bharati followed by an Alarippu composed by Karaikudi Krishnamurthy and set to rhythmic patters by Karaikudi Sivakumar with precision. Next came a Varnam, again in praise of Shiva in ragam Naattakurinji. Each and every complicated jatis or rhythmic patterns were done with so much ease and perfection. The last piece of the evening was an attractive and innovative item in ragam Charukesi. This composition took the audience to a different world. A world of peace and meditation. |
