Padma Shankar started her training in music at a tender age from her vainika mother, Mrs Lakshmi Narayanan(disciple of Late Ananthakrishna Bagavathar of Calcutta). Padmas initial training in violin was from (late) Shri. Ramakrishna Sarma of Mumbai. Now, she has the good fortune of being under the tutelage of the great violin maestro, Lalgudi G. Jayaraman, recipient of 'PadmaBhushan' from the President of India. Padma has accompanied veterans like Dr M. Balamuralikrishna, Tanjavur Sankara Iyer, Vedavalli, Kalpagam Swaminathan, N. Ramani, Suguna Varadachary, Suguna Purushottaman, Aruna Sayeeram just to name a few. Also accompanied vocalists like Sanjay Subramaniam, Vijay Siva, Ganesh, Sikkil Gurucharan, Ranjani Gayatri, Gayathri Venkataraghavan and many upcoming musicians. She has had the great opportunity of accompanying her guru Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman in his violin concert. She has also accompanied him in his lecture demonstrations. Padma is graded
A by All India Radio and is a regular performer in both
All India Radio and National Television of India - Doordarshan. She has performed in all leading Sabhas and various music festivals in India. She has performed in the US , Canada, France, Singapore, Malaysia and the Middle East. In June 2004, she has performed in the first ever carnatic classical symphony composed and conducted by Lalgudi. Jayaraman and Lalgudi G. J R Krishnan and which was premiered in Singapore. Padma participated
in the Tam Tam fest 2007 held in Tel Aviv , Israel with the Laya Project
Live (world music) and in the Earth Sync Festival 2008 with world musicians
. Padma has a number of albums released as violin accompanist as well as solo albums. |
