Bijayini Satpathy's life has been focussed on Odissi dance from her childhood. She began her training when she was seven years old, at the Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneshwar. Her first Gurus were Guru Gangadhar Pradhan and Guru Kanduri Charan Behara. With each passing year, even as her training progressed, her thirst for knowledge grew sharper and she began to search for more. This quest brought her to Nrityagram in 1993. Bijayini flourished in the fertile soil of Nrityagram under the guidance of Protima Gauri and in collaboration with Surupa Sen. The intense concentration on dance and the involvement with other practitioners of performance arts, that the system in Nrityagram fosters, gave her the perfect environment in which to grow. Her skill in Abhinaya was polished by Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan and creative dance and choreography mastered under the guidance of Ranjabati Sircar and Mahesh Mahbubani. Renowned dancers and choreographers, from all over the world, have given a new dimension to her traditional foundation. She has also trained in martial art forms like Chhau, Kalaripayattu and Aikido. Bijayini has performed all over India, the United States, Canada, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, the Middle East and the United Kingdom. She is one of two soloists to graduate from Nrityagram and has achieved national and international recognition for the sheer perfection of her dance.
