ANSHU THAPLIYAL

Born and brought up in a family of music lovers, her birthplace "Dev Bhoomi Gharwal Hills" blessed her through music with a divine vocal chord. Boasted with such a mellifluous voice, she was spotted as a child prodigy by her first guru, Dr. Meeta Sarkar of Gwalior Gharana and started her training in Khayal Gayaki of Indian classical music under guru shishya parampara at a very tender age.

Ten years of intensive training at this age has been firm enough base to build a giant structure and to bring out a gem of an artist in her. Later her vocal skills were more polished under the expert guidance of Pt. Murali Dhar Jaguri of Gwalior Gharana.

A scholarship holder from HRD Ministry, Anshu got an oppurtunity to learn the nuances of Indian Classsical Music under the specialized training of Vidushi Sulochana Brahaspati of Rampur Sadarang Tradition, which she is persuing at present.She has also had the honour of accompaning her guru to several concerts under guru shishya parampara.

Anshu has to her credit many a commendable concerts throughout the country in cities like Jaipur, Chandigarh, Agra, Bhopal, Culcatta, Indore, Allahabad, Banaras, Dehradun and Srinagar etc. She has the repertoire of giving her performances in prestigious music festivals like Taj Mahotsava, Ganga Utsava, Grishm Utsava, Baikunth Chaturdashi and AIR concerts where she left the audience enthralled with her exuberant rendition of Thumari, Dadra, Tappa and Khayal, which she has received rave reviews for.

Besides her ongoing endeavor in Indian classical music, Anshu has an exposition to light music as well. Since she believes in learning and experimenting new ideas and is always curious to know and practice various genres of music, she has lent her vocal exorbitance to a few commercial projects like regional albums and movies. Little to mention that even the stardom and glamour of commercial music has not been able to deviate her focus from her first love and passion Indian Classical Music, in which she has carved a niche for herself, through her determination and attitude.

Anshu Thapliyal a recipient of "Dehradun Ratna Award" has enticed her presence through her contribution in the field of Art & Culture for the state of Uttranchal and now all set to achieve a status of a music icon as a vocalist who is carrying the torch of this rich heritage of Indian classical music.
