Choreographic
Works:
In
the summer of 2006, Three Aksha toured with the production titled "Flute
to Conch" a life story of Krishna. This dance piece described Lord
Krishna's character in entirety using both the classical dance form
Bharatanatyam and folk dance forms of India. The music score also had
the usage of rare folk instruments. The Bharatanatyam aspects of "Flute
to Conch" were choreographed by the renowned Bharatanatyam dancer
and choreographer, Professor C.V. Chandrashekar of India, while I myself
choreographed the folk forms and was the principle dancer in the production.
I was supported by eight highly talented and flamboyant dancers of Three
Aksha. The lighting design for this performance was done by Ms. Sarah
Higgins. The premier of this piece was presented at the Drexel's Mandel
theatre. "Flute to Conch" later toured different parts of
the U.S. namely Albany, NY and Lemont, IL..
In the spring of 2006, I produced and choreographed another production
for Three Aksha, "ABHIKA", an enthralling journey of Music
and Dance. We toured the United Kingdom with this production. Our first
show was in Scotland followed by a show in London. The same piece was
performed here in Philadelphia at the Montgomery Bharatiya temple auditorium
in September. "ABHIKA" toured again in May 2007 to Halifax,
Canada and also was performed at Delaware Hindu Temple.
In
2007 I choreographed "PRAYOG" a dialogue between dance and
mathematics. This piece explored the relationship between mathematical
and metaphysical elements of traditional South Indian dance through
Bharatanatyam choreography and was premiered in Toronto, Canada with
highly talented eight member ensemble and also toured the U.S. in 2007,
Other than this I have various classical dance pieces that are choreographed
for me and also for my dance company.
