Modern Stage Service, is actively involved in day to day theatre activities, particularly in Delhi. It has instituted an award in the memory of its founder Mr. Chaman Lal Wadhwa. The Chaman Lal Memorial Awards are being given every year to two theatre persons who are connected to the back stage activities like Stage Lighting design, Stage Craft designing, Costume designing, Make up, etc. In the year 1995, the awards are given to Mr. Tarsem Lal of Delhi for Stage craft designing & Mr. Drik Jeffery of Bombay for Stage Lighting design. The awards were persented by theatre & cinema artist Sh. Sashi Kapoor. In 1996, the 2nd Chaman Lal Memorial award were apresented to Mr. G.N. Dasgupta for stage lighting design & Mr. Banshi Kaul for stage craft design. In the year 1997 the 3rd Chaman Lal Memorial award were presented by Sarod Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan & were given to Mr. M.S. Sathyu from Bangalore for stage craft & Mr. V. Ramamurthy from Bangalore for stage lighting designing. In the year 1998 the 4th Chaman Lal Memorial award were presented by Theatre & Cinema artist Sh. Nasiruddin Shah & the awardees wereb Ms. Shama Zaidi from Bangalore for Costume designing & Mr. Gautam Joshi from Mumbai for stage lighting designing.

In the year 1997-98 the life time achievement award were presented to Sh. I.L. Dass, the Director of Little Theatre Group & Sh. Tapas Sen, renowned lighting designer respectedly.

Modern Stage Service, honour for the 1st time in India the back stage artists of their own skill because they are the real actors but not being recognised or awarded.
