As far back as I can remember I have been fascinated by dance, and fortune and circumstances have come together to provide the opportunities to pursue my passion. While still a child I decided to devote myself to Kathak and move to Delhi, where home was close to the Kathak Kendra, made it possible for me to realise my dream. I started learning Kathak at the age of eleven and trained initially with Smt. Reba Vidyarthi whose rogorous training in the basics of Kathak moulded and shaped me and taught me the language of the form. Later, I came under the tutelage of Pandit Birju Maharaj. I have trained with this great master ever since. His expert guidance in all aspects of Kathak, his profound art and understanding of the tradition, have been critical in my formation as a dancer and continue to be a source of my energy and inspiration. With my gurus I belong to the Lucknow Gharana which defines a style with lyrical grace and technical percision.
